AT THE MUSEUM | MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID COURSE

Several experiences to inaugurate our new thematic cycle dedicated to mental health and in honour of World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

On Saturdays 8 and 15 October at 9 am: mental health first aid course (in French) by Ensa. The first aiders will learn various specific skills about mental disorders and crises. Practical skills are added to the theoretical knowledge through interactive exercises and role-playing. With this learning, you make an important contribution to the quality of life of those around you and also strengthen your own mental health.

Join us on Sunday 2 October at 11:00 a.m. for an emergencyoga class at the Museum! All you have to do is bring your beautiful self and your yoga mat and Donna Williams will meet you for a blissful morning, designed to uplift your body, mind and soul by being present, here and now.

"160 Years of Photography from the collections of the Red Cross and Red Crescent"

This is an exceptional archive that is unveiled in an exhibition co-produced by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum and the Rencontres d’Arles, where it is on display this summer. From the collections of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, these images reveal an huge heritage that has been little explored. From 1850 to the present day, structured in a thematic path (rallying support, showing people, bearing witness), the book brings together great names in photography and images taken by humanitarians.

The Museum's Gardens : A collaboration with EPFL’s ALICE laboratory

Summer is all about spending time in the garden. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum is embracing the great outdoors too, as it continues its transformation into a hub serving the local community. With The Museum's Gardens, works by more than 100 architecture students from the ALICE laboratory at EPFL will go on display in the Museum’s gardens and public areas. The eight wooden installations will give families, employees, local residents and passers-by a chance to explore and experience the site in a different light. Please join us!

Who cares ? Gender and humanitarian action

By presenting a broad selection of objects and little-known accounts spanning more than a century, Who Cares? Gender and humanitarian action invites visitors to take a fresh look at the history of humanitarian action and how it is represented today. Rigid gender roles are commonplace, with men associated with action and leadership while women supply compassion and care. Yet those stereotypes are belied across time by the complexity of humanitarian work and the experience of those engaged in it.

FRANZISKA GREBER, "UPROOTED AND APART"

As part of its “Gender & Diversity” Year and International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum joins the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in presenting “UpRooted and Apart”, a work by artist and psychotherapist Franziska Greber. The work can be seen in the espace FOCUS throughout the month of June.

A NEW ARTWORK ON VIEW IN THE ESPACE FOCUS

As part of our Year of Gender and Diversity, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum is proud to display Abakan Red III by Magdalena Abakanowicz in the Espace FOCUS from 21 October 2021 to 24 April 2022.

Abakan Red III is on loan from the Toms Pauli Foundation, which holds close to 50 pieces by Abakanowicz. In 2023, the Foundation will present a major retrospective of her work at the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne in partnership with London’s Tate Modern.

From November onwards, the first Saturdays of the month are free of charge, until March. During this winter period the museum closes at 5 pm.

MASTER CLASS #1 WITH REBECCA AMSELLEM

« FOR A FEMINIST AND INCLUSIVE MUSEUM»

As part of the "Gender & Diversity" annual cycle, the Museum has invited Rebecca Amsellem, a French-Canadian economist and creator of the feminist newsletter Les Glorieuses to discuss with the Museum staff what a feminist and inclusive museum should look like. The first masterclass will be held at the MICR and online on September 23, 2021.

NEW HEALTH MEASURES

From Tuesday 14 September 2021, admission to the museum will only be possible on presentation of a valid COVID certificate with a QR code recognised by the Swiss application "COVID Certificate Check proving that the holder has been vaccinated, cured or tested, as well as a form of identification. Persons under 16 years of age are not concerned. Wearing a mask is still compulsory, as well as respecting the barrier gestures.

As a preview to the exhibition To Heal a World, which will open on 16 November 2021, on 8 July there has been a conversation followed by a screening at the photography festival Les Rencontres d'Arles, presented and commented by Nathalie Herschdorfer, curator of the exhibition, and Pascal Hufschmid, director of the museum. Co-produced by the festival, To Heal a World will travel to Arles in 2022.
